Goals from Willian, Gary Cahill and Diego Costa lift Chelsea over Stoke City.
N'Golo Cante missed an early opportunity as he shot wide of goal in a quickly taken corner.
Fabregas crossed the ball to Diego Costa who took his first touch brilliantly and placed the ball in a shooting position but only saw his shot saved by Lee Grant in the Stoke goal.
Diego Costa had another wonderful chance when he controlled a David Luiz ball smartly but Lee Grant was alert and leaped into the Spaniard's feet to save Stoke. But his clearance was straight at Hazard who forced Grant to make a sharp save.
Chelsea broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Fabregas delivered a corner which was headed home by Gary Cahill, the skipper for the night.
Stoke City were back in the game in the second half when Charlie Adam shot a free-kick in the box from distance which was finished by Bruno Martins Indi.
Victor Moses made a fantastic run with the ball beating three Stoke City defenders before he was intercepted but the loose ball was picked by Willian who shot it first time wide from goal.
Chelsea made a good move and Moses got the ball from Azpilicueta and gave a fake shot to a Stoke defender before crossing it to Eden Hazard who cushioned a pass to Willian and Willian made no mistake in giving Chelsea the lead.
But Stoke had other plans. Charlie Adam flew the ball from the centre-line to Peter Crouch who controlled it good but lost control. Bojan picked the loose ball and from then it was a mismatch in the Chelsea box before Bojan found Mame Diouf who crossed to Crouch and Crouch gave the equaliser to Stoke.
Chelsea once again found the back of the net, when Fabregas fed Willian who finished it emphatically at the near post.
Costa fired over from Hazard's cross before Adam's poor defensive header from Marcos Alonso's attacking throw-in. The Spaniard out-muscled Martins Indi before drilling in his 14th goal of the season.
